Super Bowl Commercials Music Licensing

Super Bowl XLV Was A Great Place To Have Your Music Heard In TV Commercials.

There was so much music in commercials, it was amazing.  These days, music licensing in TV is one of the bright spots in the music business.

I made a list of the songs I heard and was able to identify and write down.  There may have been a few more, but I caught most of them.

“Mama Told Me Not to Come” by Three Dog Night

“Power” by Kanye West (heard in two commercials)

“Mercedes Benz” by Janis Joplin’s

“Black Betty” by Spiderbait

The theme from “Dallas”

“Lose Yourself” by Eminem

“Wildcat” by Ratatat

“Howlin’ For You” by Black Keys

“What a Wonderful World” by Joey Ramone

“Firework” by Katy Perry

“The Imperial March”   by John Williams from Star Wars

“Changes” by David Bowie

A version of “Tiny Dancer”

“Foxey Lady” by Jimi Hendrix

“Lido Shuffle by Boz Scaggs’

Not to mention of course songs by The Black Eyed Peas, Slash, and Ursher in the half time show.

The Chrysler 200 commercial with Eminem was a big hit on the internet.

It is interesting to point out to those of you who are hopeful to license your music that so many of these were classic songs but looking at Kanye West, The Black Keys, Eminem, and Katy Perry, there is hope.
