Performance Rights Organizations

performance rights organizations

This is part seven of a series of posts on how to set up your band for business.

Register With A Performance Rights Organization.

In setting up a business for a band, once the name is chosen and trademarked, the legal entity is formed and the band agreement is signed, the band should register with one of the performance rights organizations such as ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC.  The band should register as a writer and a publisher.  At the same time, sign up for SoundExchange and Alliance of Artists and Recording Companies (AARC) and any other organization that can help you collect some money for your songs.
