Taylor Swift Breaks Records – How?

This  was the headline in Billboard Magazine the other day.

In selling 1,047,000 units during a week with 5.8 million album sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan, “Speak Now” represented 18% of all albums sold last week, the highest first-week market share in SoundScan history.

What the hell happened?  How did she do it?  People actually bought CDs, not just downloads.  This completely defies all of the current thinking and Everyone in the industry is stunned and re-thinking every strategy.

We have certainly been overwhelmed by all the promotion that we have been bombarded with over the last few weeks.  She appeared on countless magazine covers, showed us a gallery of pretty pictures and videos, made all of the right appearances on TV talk shows, a Target commercial, even released her own fragrance.

So, what about the music?  Does anyone really like it?

I’m stunned!
